About Gum Sculpting
In recent years, laser dentistry has superseded many traditional dentistry practices, making treatments more precise and less painful. This newer style of dentistry utilizes intense beams of light projected by a dental laser that can be used to perform a wide variety of treatments, including soft tissue shaping and removal. Redlands, CA dentist, Dr. Steve Tatevossian, uses advanced laser technology for laser gum sculpting, gum contouring, and periodontal plastic surgery. Dental lasers are excellent for reducing bleeding and post-treatment recovery times.
Some of the benefits associated with laser dentistry include:
- Faster healing and tissue regeneration
- Preservation of more of the natural tooth
- Reduced bleeding during and after treatment
- Reduced need for anesthesia
- Reduced need for stitches and sutures
- Reduced risk of bacterial infections after procedures
Our office at King House Dental Group offers laser gum sculpting, and after this treatment, the smile looks more attractive and healthy, and the patient's oral health is dramatically improved.

"Like many, I'm not very fond of going to the dentist. I can now say I dont mind time & time again going to King House Dentist. All the staff at KHD made my family & I feel like we're apart of their family. Dr. T is outstanding & made me feel so at ease with the level of anxiety & fear I had. All staff are so kind. I couldn't be happier that I finally found a dentist that not only do I trust but who's work is exactly what I was looking to find. When Dr. T did finished my cosmetic procedures of correcting my smile the way I wanted with veneers, I wanted to cry because I have not seen my teeth look that amazing in years. I can't stop smiling now. Thank you Dr. T & Staff :) LOVE THIS PLACE!"- J.R. / Yelp / Feb 13, 2020

What to Expect
Dr. Tatevossian generally uses a local anesthesia prior to performing laser gum contouring. Different types of dental lasers have been created to treat different conditions. Each laser uses a different wavelength of light, which predicates its best use. The most common types of dental lasers are carbon dioxide lasers and diode lasers, which are usually employed to treat soft tissue problems. Dr. Tatevossian will decide which type of laser is best to use after conducting X-rays and a thorough examination.
The laser beam is extremely bright, and special glasses will be provided to protect the eyes. The beam is directed at the affected area and carefully dissolves the soft tissue. This procedure is far less invasive than surgically reducing the gumline. The gum tissue will be removed as much as necessary to create a natural, even look.
After gum contouring, there will be some minor swelling and discomfort. Patients should adhere to a soft food diet and not over exert themselves for the first 24 hours. Dr. Tatevossian will usually see patients about 7 – 10 days after the procedure to ensure the gums have healed properly and there is no infection. The healing process is quick and patients will notice their results immediately.
Dental insurance may cover some of the cost if this periodontal related plastic surgery procedure is medically necessary, but not if the procedure is only for cosmetic reasons. Our office can contact your insurance company to determine your exact coverage.
