Braces
Braces are an important part of Orthodontics. Orthodontists specialize in the treatment of malocclusions (improper bites), they are used to straighten teeth and align the jaw; Braces are also used for other purposes, such as repositioning the lower jaw or closing a gap between two teeth.
Dr. Steve Tatevossian can help you get the smile you always wanted to have! He will discuss all the viable options to achieve it.
Fixed braces are the most common type; they are made up of metal brackets that are bonded to the teeth, and metal or plastic wires that are threaded through the brackets. The wires apply pressure to the teeth, which moves them into the correct position. Fixed braces usually require one visit per month for adjustments.
Removable braces are made of clear plastic and the wires are rubber bands. We use metal or ceramic brackets as well as rubber bands for some patients. Orthodontists use different colors of rubber bands to mark which wire applies pressure on which teeth, making it easier to make adjustments during appointments.
Orthodontists use rubber bands to move the teeth into that position. They will gradually tighten the rubber bands to move teeth into their correct positions.
This is a gradual process that generally takes between six and 18 months.
Orthodontics solves crooked teeth and cosmetic dental problems. Dr. Steve Tatevossian will examine your smile and give you options to straighten it.
